Unbranded Peanut Allergy Awareness

Talking Peanut Allergy was an unbranded campaign to help raise awareness for peanut allergy. In the US, ~8% of children, or ~2 children in every classroom, have a food allergy, with peanut allergy (PA) being the most prevalent. The day-to-day burden of “avoidance and EpiPen” standard of care is taxing for children and parents alike. Over time, the associated anxiety has become accepted as their new normal. Without available treatments, HCPs focus on preventing and managing anaphylaxis for their patients who they believe are at risk. While they do all they can now to protect their children/patients, peanut allergies are never out of sight or out of mind.

For most children, peanut allergy is a lifelong burden and about 80% of them will not outgrow it. Fear of severe, life-threatening reactions may lead to increased anxiety and decreased quality of life for children and parents. Avoidance of peanuts is not 100% foolproof, accidental exposure can still happen despite a family’s best efforts.
